Although the firm has won what is to be believed as one of the largest sum of damages, the retailer has very little chance of ever seeing a payout. The court also order that 232 domain names used in the online schemes to be turned over to the fashion label and permanently disabled. ”The ruling also means that Tory Burch can disable any additional offending sites created by the defendants in the future without needing a new lawsuit,” says a writer at StyleSight News.

“…A little nervous, [Lady Gaga]… was in what [she considered an] understated dress, with… “a frothy black Thierry Mugler corset gown that was ultra-short and tight but with a frou-frou train [that] looked subtle, even accessorised with the star’s aqua green bobbed hair.

Watch out ladies! These shoes could poke your eye out….or may be something else ; )

The eye-catching, pointy boot-craze has swept through the Mexican town of Matehuala, in North Central Mexico. Although it’s not clear how the craze attracted so many fans, local lore has it that a lone cowboy requested that cobbler, Dario Calderon make him a pair of boots with a toe box that extends out almost 35 inches.

The mystery man from Huizache, a nearby village, wore his new boots to Mesquit Rodeo nightclub, where he danced bandido style with a handkerchief hiding his mouth and nose. ”He was dancing and having a good time and he didn’t care what people were saying about him,” said Fernando Lopez, the master of ceremonies at the rodeo-themed disco.

Then he disappeared.

Before long young men and boys were putting “all kinds of things on them, strobe lights, belt buckles, and those red lights that flash when you step on the shoes,” said Manuel Colim, a DJ at the Far West Corral in Dallas, Texas, where a lot of Matehualan migrants live.

“The pointy-boot fad coincided with a new dance craze of gyrating, drawer-dropping troupes dressed in matching western shirts and skinny jeans to accentuate their footwear. They dance to “tribal” music, a mixture of Pre-Columbian and African sounds mixed with fast cumbia bass and electro-house beats. In Matehuala, all-male teams compete in weekly danceoffs at four nightclubs that offer prizes of $100 to $500, and often a bottle of whiskey.”

Now girls won’t talk or dance with guys unless they are rockin’ pointy-toed boots, but others say the trend has already peaked and another, the Roper boot, is all the rage, and better designed to accommodate more dance movement.

I think the universe is speaking to me….and possibly you too, if these words sounded as if they came from the Holy Grail. As I begin to seek work in my field, I have been caught in the quandary of whether or not to work for free via an internship, or to work for some cold hard cash in any field that will have me.

The harsh realities are I need a job that will pay me, so that I can once again purchase something without thinking of my bank account. I need a job that will afford me the luxuries of buying beads, metal and art supplies to fund my design work, and maybe an over-priced drink with friends from time to time.

As much as I hope to find gainful employment in Jewelry or Accessories Design, I may need to be practical and accept that it may not happen for me this summer as I hoped. But I have made the decision, as 4:53 PM EST, that I will not take any job that cannot figure out a way to pay me. I understand that in a recession, small business owners are looking for ways to grow their businesses without large investments and low expenditures, BUT…if you are a business owner that cannot afford to pay $10\hr for 20 hours a week of work, then maybe you should give up and throw in the towel. Seriously.

In the fashion industry, it has always been a standard practice to hire interns to do the craptastic work, but in lean times such as now, it has become more common for employers to seek technical skills, social media networking skills, a rolodex of friends to become said-business’ new clients, as well as full time hours in exchange for NOTHING! (Oh, wait. I’m sorry. College credit….Ha!) Let’s take a look at the Craigslist post below:

Date: 2011-04-10, 11:42AM EDT

Reply to: xxxxx@craigslist.org

Newly formed showroom seeks a reliable graphic design intern that is strong with social media platforms and/or online mailing programs (i.e. constant contact, mailchimp, etc.)

Must be able to create dynamic online and print marketing materials. Fashion cad skills a plus.

Selected individual will report to showroom owners and have the opportunity to assist in designing garments and accessories being launched from the showroom.

Must be able to commit 12 – 20 hours days a week.

Please email your availability and why you would be the best candidate. Please also include

examples of your work.

Serious inquiries only.

So, in addition to someone’s graphic design skills, you want them to send out your email blasts, annoy their friends with your employer’s marketing tactics, and assist with designing clothes and accessories. Why don’t I just offer to name my first born child after the company while I’m at it?

While I realize beggars can’t be choosers, I do realize my worth and I refuse to give my best to an employer that cannot commit to helping me to stay off the pole. At a minimum, they could at least make the lame offer of paying for my lunch and transportation, but to offer nothing is just ridiculous.

What’s worse is that they will fill this position with some poor girl who can’t afford to work for free but will struggle with decision in hopes that they will eventually find a place in their organization for her. That is until a better paying gig (any in any field) comes along, and she jumps ship. I know ’cause I’ve heard the horror stories. And that is what they are: pure horror.

Somewhere along the way I lost my pizzaz. My joie de vivre. My love of Life.

Don’t ask me where it’s gone, or where I lost it. I don’t know and I haven’t a clue. I just know that it is missing and I want it back.

Most days I am in school and obsessing over some design or project. The 4th Floor Jewelry Studios is where I feel I belong and it has become my life line and my anchor. The walls of FIT have become my saving grace and the place I feel most comfortable and safe.

Once I leave 27th Street, I wonder where my life is going and what I am doing about it. All of the negativity that remains outside the school doors comes rushing back in, and I feel lost and unsure of myself, once again.

Therefore, I am on a mission. I am on a mission to redefine who I am and what motivates me. In the process of self-discovery I hope to reduce, if not eliminate the negativity my conscience has been feeding on for years.

Hello, this is natashaelaine and I am checking in for Day One of my 365 Challenge. I am challenging myself to post daily to this much anticipated blog. I have been attempting to blogs for years now. I have decided 2011 will be the year that I get my act together and follow through! I am officially done with all of my procrastinations. There is no time like now, and there will never be a perfect time.

I will ask you to please bear with me as I develop the blog. It will be a constant work-in-progress but I know it will be fun. I am really looking forward to this year and all the changes, hopefully, that will come about in my life.

Along with posting daily to this blog, I would also like to incorporate physical exercise, nutrition and meditation into a morning routine. Ideally, I am envisioning a blissful morning, slowly awakening from slumber, welcoming the morning and coming day, full of energy and sunshine, and then later, me: gracefully doing yoga postures in the early morning light.

Ha!

No, really, leave me alone with my fantasy, it’s sublime…. Realistically, I want to cut down on my money-wasting food habits of constantly eating-on-the-go. I commute daily from Philly to NYC for classes at FIT, which requires a 5 AM wake up. It’s brutal and I am often sluggish and slow to wake up in the morning. As a result, I buy food and snacks from vending machines, the FIT cafeteria, the yummy food cart on 7th Avenue & 26th Street (love you! xoxo), Starbucks, Chipotle, and KoFoo (I love you but you are too slow!). It has become a serious drain on the funds and I must get that in order this year. This year I am planning to bring more snack foods like, nuts, dried fruit and cheese with me in disposable containers. (Maybe I can work on brown paper bag idea – something recyclable.) But healthy food is key to my New, Fit 2011…or how about FIT & Fine 2011! Ha.

So, my ideal is to start my morning off right with 30 minute routine to keep my energy up, my spirit happy and my body healthy. In my Yoga I class, I learned a series of postures called the Sun Salutation. It’s a series of fourteen postures consisting of forward and backward poses, when “linked together in a continuous flow, help to develop strength and an awareness of breathing.” (Fraser, 101) These can be repeated several times and for varying lengths of time to create a routine for yourself. I am thinking ten minutes to stretch my muscles, and ending with five minutes of meditation.

Another 10-15 minutes to make a cup of coffee for my travel mug, pack drinks and snacks and gather school stuff. I would also like to begin taking Chantix again and a multi-vitamin.

So, it sounds easy and like something I should be able to get into the habit of, right? Well, we’ll see. They say it take 66 days to almost a year to form habits. I am often stressed in the morning because I am slow and disorganized. I am hoping this morning routine can serve as a balancing force to start my morning off right and in good spirits. Who knows? By the end of the semester in May, I should be seeing signs of increased energy, more flexibility and weight loss, or slimmer thighs….which ever happens first!

So I just made an appointment for the Basics class at Anjali Power Yoga Studio in Rittenhouse Square in Philly. It is a short walk around the corner and a requirement for my Yoga class at school.

So I just made an appointment for the Basics class at Anjali Power Yoga Studio in Rittenhouse Square in Philly. It is a short walk around the corner and a requirement for my Yoga class at school.

My Yoga teacher at FIT, while a lovely lady, makes me batshit loony at times. Between the hokey faux-Indigo Girls music and her periodic farts, I am generally wavering between hysterical laughter, boredom and sleepiness. I know it’s childish but she’s so blase about it, and I have class with a bunch of 19 year-olds. Hopefully, the instructors at Anjali will give me the inspiration and motivation I haven’t been getting in MY class.

The Anjali Power Yoga Studio offers “vinyasa flow classes… practiced in a studio heated to 90 degrees with a high humidity. Anjali Power Yoga offers teachings based on the Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga style. The emphasis of this style of yoga is to challenge you to experience a transformation.”

They recently added a Basics class to their Westmount location, Philly to come soon! The class is supposed to be taught with beginners in mind. Too bad they don’t offer it at the Philly location, but I will be taking the Power Vinyasa class tonight, and I hope I can keep up! Yikes.

Located on South Street, the studio got a couple of good reviews on Yelp and a recommendation to try out the Student Special, reasonably priced at $20 for 10 days of unlimited yoga, which is what I signed up for.

I’ll post an update after the class this evening at 6pm!

Just breathe…

Philanthropist and collector, Fiona Druckenmiller has recently opened a new boutique in Midtown devoted to rare jewelry and exotic goods. The tip from W Magazine, writes:

F.D, Fiona Druckenmiller’s Upper East Side gallery of a boutique, set to open on October 28, is devoted to staggeringly rare jewelry, accessories, furniture, and other exquisite goods. There is a Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet from the Twenties, a pair of French Art Deco bookends carved in the shape of pelicans (silver bodies, ivory beaks), and vintage Birkins galore. The oldest piece—an Indian sculpture of a fertility spirit—is from the first century, but perhaps more stunning are the two Fifties cuffs that once belonged to Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie. While those will set you back $40,000, and an Italian-made green enamel and diamond serpent bracelet (above) $28,000, Chanel costume jewelry begins at around $100. “I think it’s great to wear a pair of earrings and a ring, or just a statement necklace,” says Druckenmiller. “No one wants a full suite.” Still, she has made sure to acquire just that in case the right client wanders in. Made with 154 carats of Burmese Pigeon Blood rubies and 129 carats of diamonds, the necklace, earrings, and bracelet—created in Geneva—go for a cool $3.35 million.

The NYTimes adds:

There’s something for everyone at F.D, the philanthropist and collector Fiona Druckenmiller’s new Midtown boutique. That is, if the everyone in question is seeking exquisite new and vintage jewels (the shop boasts an impressive cache of period Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels), watches, sculptures, Art Deco furniture, photography, first-edition manuscripts and swanky barware. The interior, designed in collaboration with the décor firm Pamela Banker Associates, is best described as cozy chic. “We wanted it to be homey and welcoming, not intimidating,” Druckenmiller says. “People will hopefully feel comfortable enough to linger, have a coffee or glass of wine, and spend time learning about the objects that interest them.”

They had me at “Hello.”
